Rapid Creek, Yukon has yielded a dizzying array of rare minerals and phosphate. A classic Rapid Creek specimen is whiteite. This rare hydrated hydroxyphosphate is named after a founder of the Mineralogical Record and former associate curator of minerals at the Smithsonian Institution, John Sampson White, Jr. This example has several whiteite crystals (toffee coloured) along with scattered small quartz and siderite crystals on shale. A good association specimen of good size. Ex Tom Collins collection. From: Rapid Creek, Yukon, Canada. Dimensions: 6 cm x 9 cm
