A striking ruby (corundum) on calcite specimen from the Dattaw Mine in Mogok, Myanmar. A rich pinkish-red ruby crystal is prominently positioned on a contrasting pale calcite crystal, creating a simple but visually effective two-mineral association.
The strong colour contrast naturally draws attention to the ruby, while the calcite provides an attractive geometric foundation for the specimen. This piece has wonderful fluorescence under short wave ultraviolet light as well. Ruby specimens from the legendary Mogok mining district carry special collector appeal, and the prominent placement of the ruby on contrasting calcite makes this an excellent example for anyone looking to add a classic Mogok gemstone mineral association to their collection.
