An attractive rhodochrosite on quartz specimen from the Grizzly Mine, Colorado, USA, featuring distinctive pink rhodochrosite crystals prominently positioned on a contrasting white quartz matrix. I really like the naturally-etched surfaces on the rhodo which give it a lot of visual interest.
The rhodochrosite displays a soft salmon-pink to rose coloration and well-defined crystal growth, standing out beautifully against the bright crystalline matrix. The association of colorful rhodochrosite with quartz makes this an appealing example of a classic Colorado mineral species.
Colorado is particularly famous among mineral collectors for its rhodochrosite occurrences, and specimens from historic mining localities are sought after for both their mineralogical interest and locality provenance.
