A striking copper-mineral specimen featuring rich green to blue-green plancheite associated with dark green libethenite with quartz and calcite from Kakanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The specimen is dominated by light shades of blue-green plancheite forming an intricate textured coating across the matrix. Plancheite is a hydrated copper silicate known for its distinctive coloration and typically occurs in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. Crevices within the planceite reveal sparkling, dark green libethenite crystals best appreciated under magnification. Crystalline white to colourless quartz and pink calcite provide nice contrast.
The late Mike Clark obtained the specimen from The Aesthetics Underground, Banff, Alberta and labeled it specimen #987. I obtained the piece from a colleague of Mike's.
