The Malbunka Copper Mine in Australia is the only (known) place in the world where azurite forms these beautiful circular "suns". The colour contrast with the kaolinite (clay) rich matrix makes for stunning specimens like this one. I have secured a nice lot of these from another dealer that was hoarding some older stock.
The specimen features multiple intensely royal-blue azurite discs distributed prominently across a contrasting pale matrix. Several of the formations occur as overlapping or interconnected “suns,” while others are isolated, allowing their rounded form and radiating crystal texture to be clearly appreciated. The exceptional blue coloration stands out dramatically against the nearly white host rock.
Azurite suns are a highly distinctive locality-specific mineral habit, making specimens from Malbunka immediately recognizable to collectors. With numerous well-exposed suns, vivid color contrast and an attractive display arrangement across a substantial matrix, this specimen has excellent visual presence and strong appeal for both azurite specialists and collectors of classic Australian minerals.
