My friend, Rob Belcher, and I are fans of metallic minerals. Shockingly, at times, we seem to be in the minority but surely a nice specimen of lollingite would sway anyone to our side? In its purest form, Lollingite has a fairly simple chemical formula consisting of an atom of arsenic and two of iron and has a stunning colour and luster (in my humble opinion). The mines near Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia have produced terrific examples like this piece form Rob's collection. The sheath-like lollingite crystals are scattered amongst the occasional quartz crystal point making for nice contrast. A very nice example of the species from a contemporary classic locality. From: Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, China. Dimensions: 7.5 cm x 6 cm
