A distinctive native silver specimen with löllingite from the historic Castle Mine in the Gowganda District, Ontario, Canada.
Classic elongated, dendritic silver crystals, in branching patterns, partially-coated with löllingite. The silver crystals show "spinel-twinning" and are fascinating to review under magnification. These two minerals contrast nicely with the underlying white calcite on matrix. Measuring 11cm long, this is a healthy, cabinet-sized specimen and is quite attractive (for gray minerals!).
This Ontario district is known for its world-class silver specimens along with less common cobalt and arsenic-bearing minerals (löllingite is an iron arsenide). From the collection of friend and mentor, Rob Belcher.
