Also known as "red antimony", kermesite is a antimony oxysulphide which is certainly an uncommon combination of elements. Beautiful and rare aptly describe kermesite and our example does not disappoint. Recently acquired from a Calgary collection, this cabinet-sized specimen of ore shows several radial crystal groups of kermesite. The metallic ruby red colour of the acicular crystals is stunning. Other species are present but I have yet to identify them. This big specimen weighs almost 4 kg
