An attractive rhodochrosite specimen from the American Tunnel, a modern classic Colorado locality. Several stout, pinkish-red rhodochrosite crystals are accompanied by additional masses of rhodochrosite across a predominantly quartz matrix, creating excellent colour contrast.
The matrix also contains a mixture of sulphides, possibly including tetrahedrite, galena and chalcopyrite, along with a few slender quartz crystals. The combination of vivid rhodochrosite, bright sulphides and contrasting white quartz gives the specimen plenty of visual interest from multiple angles.
