A striking elbaite tourmaline on smoky quartz specimen from Paprok, Afghanistan, featuring a contrasting green tourmaline crystal perched prominently on a pair of well-formed smoky quartz crystals.
The smoky quartz forms the substantial base of the specimen, with two lustrous, sharply defined crystals displaying attractive smoky brown coloration and good translucency. Rising from the quartz is a strongly striated yellow-green elbaite crystal, measuring approximately 2.6 cm long, providing an eye-catching contrast in both color and crystal form. The elbaite has a natural, re-healed break and there are some nicks and abrasion of the smoky quartz crystals.
At 4.5 cm across, the specimen is compact yet has excellent three-dimensional presence. The combination of two distinct collectible minerals, the prominent placement of the tourmaline, and the strong green-against-smoky-brown contrast makes this a particularly attractive association specimen from Afghanistan.
