Beryllonite with Tourmaline (Elbaite), Paprok, Nuristan, Afghanistan

Beryllonite is a rare phosphate mineral from granitic pegmatites so its fitting this example hails from the famous Paprok area of Afghanistan. Paprok is famous for its fabulous tourmaline-bearing pegmatites and our beryllonite has several attached gemmy elbaites showing their intimate relationship. This specimen was saved from an uncertain future and was discovered, along with other minerals, in a set of tool boxes at Value Village in Calgary!
