Microlcine (variety Amazonite) with Smoky Quartz, Kashale, Konso, Ethiopia

You would be excused if you thought this beautifully-coloured amazonite was from Colorado. Essentially all of the quality amazonite we've seen on the market lately is from the Rockies in Colorado. However, this specimen is from Ethiopia! This remarkable country also claims world-class opals and emeralds (I think I need to visit there one day!). The deposits at Konso are now recognized as equally, if not exceeding the quality of their Colorado cousins. This piece has several very brightly coloured amazonite crystals along with a few (broken) smoky quartz crystals. Ex Lauren Howard collection.
