An attractive marcasite crystal specimen from Starkville, Mississippi, USA, featuring a dense cluster of sharply formed metallic crystals arranged in a striking three-dimensional formation. These crystals are found in the Selma Chalk exposed by excavation in numerous sites near Starkville.
This particularly nice specimen displays the characteristic brassy-grey to metallic coloration of marcasite, with numerous pointed and bladed crystals showing distinctive textured and striated surfaces. The tightly intergrown crystals create an intricate sculptural appearance, with individual terminations projecting in multiple directions. I have had this specimen for a year or two and there has been no evidence of any disintegration that some marcasite is susceptible to. This is a nice, sturdy little specimen!
Mounted on a clear acrylic display base, this specimen presents beautifully from several angles and was recently acquired from my friend and fellow Calgarian, Steve Potvin.
