Rocky Mountain Minerals and Fossils

Hadrosaur fossil (caudal) vertebra, Alberta, Canada (disposition #001590)

Hadrosaur fossil (caudal) vertebra, Alberta, Canada (disposition #001590)

Previously sold specimen — shown for reference

Part of the recently acquired Harvey Negrich fossil collection, this is an excellent hadrosaur (duck-billed dinosaur) vertebra. The shape indicates this it is from the tail (caudal vertebra), and has a partial neural arch. Having been field collecting for decades, I can attest it is uncommon to find vertebra with a preserved neural arch or other features. Erosion and the harsh Canadian climate tend to disintegrate dinosaur bones due to their porous nature once exposed to the elements. This fossil appears to have been repaired by combining two halves of a split vertebra but has not been restored in any way (no enhancements or hole-filling).

This specimen combines a manageable display size and anatomical detail with recorded provenance and legal status, making it an appealing addition to a collection of Alberta dinosaur fossils.

Legal Status: This specimen is legally available for private ownership and resale under Alberta Disposition Certificate #001590. A copy of the disposition documentation will accompany the specimen. Learn more about Alberta fossils and the disposition process.
