Witherite, Rosiclare Mine, Hardin County, Illinois

Here we have a very good example of barium carbonate - witherite - from a prominent locality. This pale yellow-green crystal is well-formed and lustrous with some minor attached purple fluorite. The specimen is crystalized on all sides and although there appear to be various contact points, it feels like a floater crystal. Like all barium minerals, this sample has good heft, due to that element's specific gravity. There is a nice response under ultraviolet light as well.
