Canada has a lot of impressive gypsum (variety selenite) deposits, such as Willow and Hines creeks in Alberta and Swift Current, Saskatchewan, but the Red River Floodway near Winnipeg, Manitoba is certainly the king. This older Red River specimen was collected many decades ago and stashed away until now. It has a prominent selenite blade, of nice colour, exhibiting a "swallow-tail" twin. It protrudes from a rosette of smaller selenites which is slightly smaller than the blade giving the specimen unique composition. Nice fluorescent response under ultraviolet light as well. Ex Harvey Negrich. Dimensions: 3 cm x 4.5 cm
