Canada is blessed with several unique selenite occurrences (see "Gypsum in Canada" by Mark Mauthner in Rocks & Minerals, 81:1, pages 62-66, published in 2006). Perhaps our most famous gypsum locality, though, is the Red River Floodway outside of Winnipeg. Impressive clusters and rosettes of yellow and amber-coloured selenite has been recovered from the muddy glacial sediments there. This specimen is typical of the locality where quality pieces are becoming exceedingly difficult to now find. Of course these have wonderful fluorescence...and phosphorescence too! From: Red River Floodway, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dimensions: 5.5 cm x 5.5 cm
