An elegant and highly aesthetic quartz crystal from the famous Cabiche mining district near Quípama, Boyacá, Colombia. The crystal is remarkably transparent through much of its length, while a dense concentration of golden-yellow halloysite inclusions near the termination creates a dramatic natural colour transition from clear quartz to a vivid golden upper section.
The halloysite inclusions are particularly concentrated within the complex termination, producing the distinctive appearance for which these Colombian crystals have become known. Despite the intricate terminal growth, the termination is complete and shows no apparent damage.
Halloysite is a clay mineral that can occur as delicate inclusions within quartz, and specimens from the Cabiche area are especially prized for their clarity, intense golden coloration and striking internal zoning. The slender crystal form further emphasizes the contrast between the transparent lower portion and inclusion-rich termination.
A beautiful and distinctive example of halloysite-included quartz from this celebrated Colombian locality.
