Quartz pseudomorph after Microcline with Schorl, Erongo, Namibia

Another terrific Erongo specimen formerly of the Mike Menzies collection (#1664). Quartz has completely replaced but retained the crystal shape of microcline (a pseudomorph). The quartz is compromised of microcrystals which glisten even in low light. Radial sprays of tourmaline (variety schorl) partially adorn the specimen giving very nice colour contrast and added interest. Mineralogically fascinating piece. A small base of Styrofoam has been added to form a steady base; the Styrofoam has been coloured black in a few spots to help conceal it but is present in some of the photographs and could be easily removed if desired.
