A beautiful lake community in southeast British Columbia harbours a secret. An abandoned mine within a few minutes drive of Moyie Lake once yielded world-class pyromorphite specimens. Small is all, as most pieces saved from the mine dump were thumbnail-sized although miniatures were found on occasion. One such piece is this terrific sample showing radial tufts (about 8mm across) of tiny, spiky yellow-green pyromorphite crystals. No true pyromorphite (or Canadian) mineral collection is complete with a Society Girl Mine specimen! I am told the mine dump has essentially been vacuumed of specimens so recycled specimens like these are all that's left to collect. Ex Garry Kolodinsky collection. Dimensions: 2.5 cm x 4.5 cm
We recently purchased a sizeable collection from the estate of the late Garry Kolodinsky. Among several suites of minerals Garry focused on, Idaho and French pyromorphites were near the top of the list. We hope to list many pieces in the coming months.
