These micro, high-luster green crystals first appear to be uvarovite garnets but are, in fact, terrific little pyromorphite crystals. Coverage is on two sides of the weighty matrix which I have not fully identified but is likely a manganese oxide. Most of the crystals are vivid green although there are a few brownish-green ones in one small patch. The overall specimen is very attractive for the size and interesting to view under magnification. Unfortunately, the full provenance of this piece is limited to "France" on the accompanying old label but may be from Les Farges. Dimensions: 3.5 cm x 4 cm
We recently purchased a sizeable collection from the estate of the late Garry Kolodinsky. Among several suites of minerals Garry focused on, Idaho and French pyromorphites were near the top of the list. We hope to list many pieces in the coming months.
