Petrified "Colla Wood", Zile, Turkey
Very rare petrified wood slice (polished on both sides) showing chrysocolla (light green), malachinte (slightly darker green) and cuprite (red), in addition to the typical gem silica replacement of the original wood. The wood is a white pine but the term "Colla Wood" has been coined to popularly name the material stemming from the chrysocolla present in many specimens. The petrified wood is found over a copper deposit in Turkey with only a few pieces showing this unique replacement with copper minerals (not every slice shows colourful mineralization!). This piece has been sliced lengthwise along the grain of the ancient wood versus a traditional perpendicular slice. These make for very attractive specimens. Possibly of Miocene age. Zile, Tolkat Province, Turkey. Dimensions: 8 cm x 11 cm
