This is the largest slice of Turkish "Colla Wood" I have offered and one of the most colourful. The agatized white pine from near Zile, Turkey overlies a copper deposit with some of the wood having absorbed various copper minerals. The term "Colla Wood" stems from the chrysocolla (blue green) present in many specimens, including this one. Other minerals present in this piece are malachite (light green), azurite (dark blue), cuprite (discreet red-brown crystals) and siderite (thin orange streaks), all within white and black chalcedony (agate)...which fluoresces! Fossil specimens like these are impressive mineralogically but are equally aesthetic too and would fit into any quality collection. Possibly of Miocene age. Zile, Tolkat Province, Turkey. Dimensions: 16 cm x 29 cm
