Petrified "Colla" Wood, Zile, Turkey
Petrified "Colla" Wood, Zile, Turkey
Very rare petrified wood slice (polished) showing chrysocolla (light blue), volborthite (yellow) and cuprite (red), in addition to the typical gem silica replacement of the original wood. The wood is a white pine but the term "Colla Wood" has been coined to popularly name the material stemming from the chrysocolla present in many specimens. The petrified wood is found over a copper deposit in Turkey with only a few pieces showing this unique replacement with copper minerals (not every slice shows colourful mineralization!). Our largest example with good "bark" around most of the circumference and very clear tree rings. Possibly of Miocene age. Zile, Tolkat Province, Turkey. Dimensions: 15 x 16.5 cm SOLD
