Native Copper, Afton Mine, Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada

Beginning in 1977, the Afton Mine exploits a porphyry copper-gold deposit via open pit operations. The mine has experienced two lives, having once been closed and back-filled. The mine was reopened in 2007 after new reserves were discovered. This terrific native copper specimen was derived from the earlier phase of mining.
