Most garnet varieties typically have red colouration, but not in the grossular-andradite series. A beautiful exception are the "raspberry" garnets from the Sierra De Cruces Range in Mexico (sometimes called rosolite). Studies have since shown that Mn+3 in the chemical structure is responsible for the beautiful dark pink of these unique garnets. This nice piece hails from the Steve Potvin collection and shows many nicely formed crystals contrasting with a white matrix of mostly wollastonite. From Santo Domingo Claim, Sierra De Cruces, Coahuila, Mexico. Dimensions: 4 cm x 5.5 cm
