A new find of rare green hauyne from the roof of Afghanistan! Hauyne (rare enough as it is), is typically blue but not this unique specimen. Additionally, this piece exhibits strong orange fluorescence under long-wave ultra-violet light (see photos)! Along with some minor pyrite, the white portions of the specimen are altering to gonnardite, another rare mineral. This locality is famous for both mineralogical and archaeological reasons and I highly recommend you read Rob Woodside's excellent review in Mineralogical Record May-June 2014, Vol 45, No 3. From Sar-e-Sang, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. Dimensions: 3 x 6.5 x 7 cm
