It is great having a friend that co-owns a gold mine; my favourite type of friend! Ha!  Occasionally they find treasures like this huge nugget! This beauty weights just over one pound! That's 465 grams or 14.95 troy ounces! Admittedly there is a little quartz still  attached to the nugget, but its specific gravity is much less than gold, so most of the weight is from the precious metal. The quartz does indicate that the nugget has been weathered from a quartz vein. Subsequent erosion has created the striations in the nugget, which may include both glacial ice and stream water abrasion. The nugget remains relatively jagged and probably has not moved too far from its source vein. I find it amazing that people are still finding gold nuggets of this size after 175 years of placer mining in British Columbia. The owner claims the purity is about 92% based on gold currently being extracted at the placer mine. Exact location is available to serious buyers only, including a tour of the operation! This is a special opportunity to acquire a significant Canadian gold nugget with excellent provenance. Sorry, but discounts will not apply to this specimen.  Note this specimen remains with the consignor and will not be traveling with me to shows. From Purcell Mountain Range, near Golden, British Columbia.  Dimensions: 3.5 cm x 8.5 cm PRICE ON REQUEST
