Gold, Eagle's Nest Mine, California

It seems no matter the size of the specimen, every gold sample from the Eagle's Nest Mine seems to be stellar. Here we have a terrific thumb-nail sized crystallized gold specimen from Eagle's Nest. Interestingly this specimen comes with an older label showing the locality as the Mystery Wind Mine. A quick search on Mindat will reveal that this was the "cover name" for the real mine when these first came out of the ground. The miners did not want to draw attention to their discovery and so purposely mislabeled their mine! This specimen is now mounted on an acrylic base for easy display and handling.
