Fluorite on Smoky Quartz, Argentier Glacier, Mont Blanc, France

Amongst the most sought-after fluorites from Europe are peachy-pink octahedral fluorite from the French Alps. The Mont Blanc region is famous for absolutely killer specimens. Adding to their story is the effort "cristalliers" or "strahlers" (crystal collectors) make trying to find these treasures in the high alpine country of the French and Swiss Alps. Our offering shows several cute octahedral fluorites scattered on quartz and smoky quartz. The octahedrons appear to be in very good shape with only minor bruising to one, while the quartz is mostly broken, probably upon removal from its host rock. This miniature is an affordable entry into these famous fluorites and a must for a complete fluorite collection. Having been in Canada for a long time, this piece has a label accompanying the specimen indicating it was obtained from Salt Minerals, a well-known - but now closed - Winnipeg mineral dealership.
