Dioptase on Chrysocolla, Morenci Mine, Greenlee County, Arizona

One of my favourite specimens acquired from the Garry Kolodinsky Collection is this fun combination of copper minerals from Morenci. The botryoidal form of chrysocolla first grabs your attention on this outstanding cabinet-sized piece. Closer examination, however, also reveals a sprinkling of tiny, lustrous dioptase crystals across most of the specimen! The darker green of the dioptase is nicely backdropped by the softer chrysocolla for an impressive overall appearance. Very interesting form and chemistry on this piece.
