A Canadian classic! The world's finest cubanite crystals hail from La Belle Province (Quebec) due to their striking luster and crystal structure. Finding specimens is becoming difficult since mining ceased at the prime Quebec locality in the late 1980s (see "Cubanite in Canada" by David Joyce published online 06/08/2022). Small thumbnails do occur on the market with some regularity but those still in matrix are very rare (or very, very expensive). We are offering a miniature graced with three nice cubanite crystals, along with some spots of massive cubanite. The longest cubanite is 8mm, the next 5mm and finally 2mm for the smallest. The larger two crystals show twinning, with the 5mm crystal actually a small, incomplete "sixling" twin. There is good micromount trimming possibilities here. All the cubanites contrast nicely with the white calcite matrix which is partially crystallized itself. The old label accompanying the specimen states the locality as "Portage, Chibougamau" although I suspect it hails from the Henderson II Mine in Chibougamau, Quebec. Ex Garry Kolodinsky collection. Dimensions: 3.5 cm x 4 cm
