Creedite, Navidad Mine, Durango, Mexico
Creedite, Navidad Mine, Durango, Mexico
Creedite is a fluorine-bearing sulfate with a complex chemical formula; meaning it forms only under rare and unique conditions. Fluorite mining at the Navidad Mine ended up yielding amongst the world's best creedite specimens back in the first decade of this century. I understand that few, if any, creedite specimens are currently being mined at Navidad, so opportunities to acquire nice examples will likely begin to dry up. This piece is challenging to photograph but consists of two semi-spherical clusters of well-formed creedite crystals resting on a thin plate of matrix. This piece is very attractive from any angle and is a solid example of the species. From the Navidad Mine, Durango, Mexico. Dimensions: 5 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm
