Calcite Sand Crystals, Rattlesnake Butte, South Dakota

This variety of calcite has sand grains incorporated as inclusions during growth. These make for really interesting specimens. Rattlesnake Butte is considered classic USA locality and is now a protected national landmark with collecting now prohibited. This specimen was likely collected in the 1960s-1970s.
