Calcite on Fluorite - China

A substantial cabinet-sized fluorite and calcite specimen from China, featuring large, gemmy pale-green fluorite cubes with excellent lustre. One side of the specimen is richly covered with contrasting calcite crystals, creating an attractive combination of crystal forms, colours and textures.
The specimen becomes particularly interesting under long-wave (365 nm) ultraviolet light. The fluorite displays a purple fluorescent response, while the calcite fluoresces a contrasting red, producing two distinctly different colours on the same specimen.
Weighing approximately 1 kg and measuring 16.5 cm across, this is an impressive display piece with considerable presence. A few fluorite edges show minor nicks, but these do not detract significantly from the overall appearance.
