Calcite and Fluorite, Denton Mine, Hardin County, Illinois

This large specimen has fluorite encrusting intergrown yellow calcite crystals. The latter have a waxy luster. They are well-crystallized except at one end which is either a contact or a cleave. Additionally the calcites have etching pits and are somewhat rounded, implying they were partially resorbed after formation. The fluorites are partially complete and exhibit a nice deep purple.
