Bournonite, Herodsfoot Mine, Lanreath, Cornwall, England

One of the historic classics from Sarah Topham's collection was this nice Cornwall bournonite from Prosper Williams, her old partner. This specimen hails from the Herodsfoot Mine, well-known for its "superb" cogwheel bournonite crystals. According to Mindat, the mine was active as far back as the 1700s, 1831 and from 1845-1884. This makes our specimen well over 100 years old which feels validated based on the old label affixed to the bottom of the piece. It is not often this come to market anymore.
