Pyritized Ammonite (Cleoniceras), Ambatolafia, Madagascar (sliced pair)

There are plenty of these terrific ammonite slices on the market but have you seen a pyritized one? Cleoniceras is an Early Cretaceous (about 110 million year old) extinct ammonite genus and this example has been sliced to reveal the inner chambers mostly filled with carbonates. The addition of some pyrite makes the preservation here a little different than the average specimen from Madagascar and would make a good addition to an ammonite collection.  Each slice is (max) 9 cm in diameter with quite a bit of shell remaining on the outside surfaces. Suture lines are also clearly visible so this specimen has it all. From Ambatolafia, Mahajunga Province, Madagascar. Dimensions: 7.25 x 9 cm
