The contrast between iridescent shell and visible sutures offers several features to appreciate at close range, while the specimen’s size gives it a strong presence. Like the majority of these fossils, it has been coated with an automotive-grade lacquer to help protect it and bring out its special colours.

Obtained by Calgary geologist and collector George Sutherland from Korite/Canada Fossils in the 1990s, this ammonite is from the classic Alberta locality, has excellent collection provenance, and striking shell detail—an appealing addition to any Canadian fossil collection.

Species: Placenticeras meeki
Age: Late Cretaceous
Formation: Bearpaw Formation
Locality: St. Mary River, near Magrath, Alberta, Canada
Dimensions: 22 × 20.5 × 5.5 cm
Provenance: Ex George Sutherland Collection (obtained by him from Korite/Canada Fossils in the 1990s)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0679/6011/1386/files/placenticeras-meeki-ammonite-st-mary-river-alberta-01.jpg?v=1792700825
