These marks add interest beyond the bone itself, preserving interaction between a carnivore and the dinosaur whose remains it fed upon. No fossil specimen tells a better story than this!

The specimen retains part of the rib’s curved surface, with multiple (at least four) gashes crossing the surrounding bone texture. Such traces offer a connection to dinosaur feeding behaviour. While these marks alone cannot establish whether it resulted from predation or scavenging, it does indicate the force of the carnivore's bite was enough to indent bone. I love ribs too but my teeth do not leave behind grooves like this!

From the Harvey Negrich Collection, this fossil makes an intriguing addition to a collection focused on dinosaur palaeobiology and the ancient ecosystems of Alberta.

Legal Status: This specimen is legally available for private ownership and resale under Alberta Disposition Certificate #001590.
