Bixbyite (twinned), Solar Wind Mine, Thomas Range, Utah
Here is a specimen that should attract a variety of collectors for different reasons. The species - bixbyite - is certainly not common and the best do come from the Thomas Range. If you are looking for a unique mineral this is a good choice. The specimen is certainly aesthetic, perched on top of a piece of contrasting rhyolite, and would fit nicely into any thumbnail collection too. For those who enjoy crystals, this bixbyite is twinned with sharp crystal edges, adding to its uniqueness. Ex Tom Collins collection (specimen #3 from his sizeable collection!). From Solar Wind Mine, Thomas Range, Juab County, Utah. . Dimensions: 2 cm x 3.5 cm, with the crystal slightly exceeding 1 cm
